Why Amazon?

When options are limited

This has been an ongoing struggle for many of us, and I do respect the people who have been able to completely distance themselves from this company. Likewise, I understand purchasing from them when we can‘t get a product locally, or when the price difference is significant enough to make it hard to justify buying elsewhere.

In the past decade, most of my publishers—and if you’ve followed my career at all, you know there have been many—either went out of business or downsized to the point of eliminating much of their backlist (old titles). The result was seeing my books go out of print, one by one. To date, the only ones still available from their respective publishers are The Win-Win Classroom (and the facilitator’s guide), The Best of Corwin: Classroom Management, the recently released Creating Emotionally Safe Schools, and Managing 21st Century Classrooms. As of December 2025, these books are also available on Amazon, though you may have to search including using my name.

Any orders we receive for these three titles will be routed to the publisher for fulfillment, and plans to provide a link to order directly from them are in the works. For better or worse, the price of these titles may be a good bit lower on Amazon (but not always), and digital copies of most products are available for Kindle users there.

I was fortunate enough to get the help I needed to re-release many of the out-of-print books back into print through Amazon’s Direct Publishing, the only service I know of to be useable and relatively affordable. This has also allowed us to make the content available without having to print, pay for, and store large quantities of each title we’ve been able to keep available.

We emptied our warehouse during Covid and no longer have copies of these books on hand. There are other projects that are still sitting in a file and may though they may not see the light of day. My intention was driven by a desire to keep the content alive, as many of these books were reported to have helped large numbers of people. So while I may not have the stamina to travel and present as I once did, keeping as much of this material available was very important and, again, for better or worse, Amazon was the best vehicle I could find for doing that.

Update: I’ve recently seen other authors make their eBooks available through other sources and will continue to investigate these options. But for now, love it or hate it, Amazon is still the best business model for us to use. If you have a better option, please feel free to let me know.
