About these Photos

When I was redesigning this site in 2003, I wanted to make my home page as personal as possible. I pulled out a bunch of slides and photos I had taken over the years and the result was a vertical version of the photobar that appears at the bottom of most of the pages on this site. The only shot I did not take is the 6th one from the left.

The photos include the following:

1. Two kindergarteners at Chartiers Elementary school in Pittsburgh (where I was teaching at the time), late 1970s.

2. Young kids at a Laguna Pueblo festival, New Mexico, about 1981.

3. Teacher and student, Chartiers Elementary, Pittsburgh, late 1970s.

4. Three of my fourth graders, Chartiers Elementary, Pittsburgh, late 1970s.

5. Teen girls hanging out in Singapore, 1998.

6. A vintage picture of me, helping a student in my classroom, Chartiers Elementary School, Pittsburgh, probably around 1977 or 1978.

7. A couple of teens I met in Sydney, 1999.

8. Another student at Chartiers Elementary.

Throughout the site, I’ve used a combination of clipart and photos from my own personal collection. I continue to take pictures of kids around the world, photos that appear in slide presentations I show at the beginning of my presentations and, when feasible, on breaks. At present, I have taken photos of young people (from infants through young adults in the early 20s) in nearly 40 countries.
